Denton Information

Denton is the county seat of Denton County, Texas and the eleventh largest city in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The city is located about 40 miles south of both the Oklahoma - Texas border and 40 miles Dallas. Denton has a population of approximately 120,000 people.

There are two state universities in Denton, the University of North Texas (the largest university in North Texas), and Texas Woman's University. Many consider Denton a college town since over 45,000 students participate in courses at the two universities.

The city was named after Texas militia captain John B. Denton. The opening of the two universities helped differentiate the city from neighboring regions, as well as contribute greatly to its economy.
People hear enjoy various events, including: music events, the annual North Texas State Fair and Rodeo and the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival. These events attract hundreds of thousands of people each year.
